Making the most of school breaks
School breaks and quiet periods are the best time for work that needs empty rooms. Floor work and deeper cleaning of classrooms, restrooms and common areas are scheduled while students are away, so the building looks and feels fresh when classes start again.
During the school year, visits happen after students and children leave, with play areas, nap rooms and restrooms cleaned for the next morning. Periodic floor care and carpet cleaning keep busy hallways and classrooms in good shape.
Classroom by classroom
Each classroom gets desks and chairs wiped, including the tops and edges small hands touch most, along with door handles, light switches, cubbies and bookshelf tops. Floors are swept and mopped or vacuumed, bins are emptied and classroom sinks are cleaned. Hallways, entries and drinking fountains are covered as the cleaner moves from room to room.
School offices, staff rooms and the front entry get the same evening care as any office, so the building feels ready for parents and visitors at drop-off. Restrooms are cleaned and restocked on every visit.
What changes in a daycare
Younger children spend much of the day at floor level, so floors, mats and low surfaces come first in a daycare. Play areas, nap rooms and changing areas are cleaned once the children have gone home, and toys or equipment your staff set aside are handled following your procedures. If your center has rules on the cleaning products used around children, share them and every visit follows them.
Daycares share their schedule up front, including care hours, any early-drop or late-pickup programs and the days the center closes. Visits are then set so rooms are clean before the first child arrives in the morning.
Choosing a schedule across the school year
During term, plan on cleaning every school day after students leave, with restrooms and high-use rooms on each visit. Breaks are when the bigger jobs happen: floor care for hallways and classrooms, and carpet extraction for reading corners and carpeted rooms.
Summer, winter and spring breaks each open a different length of window, so plan the largest jobs for the longest break and lighter refreshes for the short ones. Weekend visits fill the gap during the school year when a single room needs extra work, and our guide to setting visit frequency has more examples.
Before each break, let us know which rooms will be locked, which hold equipment that stays in place and when staff return, so the bigger jobs wrap up with time to spare before the first day back.
School and daycare cleaning costs in Santa Cruz
Schools and daycares usually pay at or a little below Santa Cruz office rates. For comparison, published 2026 rates put an office program here at about $0.15 to $0.24 for each foot monthly. Classrooms are open rooms, so crews move through them efficiently, but restrooms, cubbies, tables and toys take care. Cleaning happens outside class and care hours, so kids and teachers come back to fresh rooms.
Consider a 10,000-square-foot private school with eight classrooms, a multipurpose room, restrooms and an office, cleaned after students leave each weekday at $0.14 a foot. That costs $1,400 a month. Summer and break-week deep cleans are priced separately, and so is carpet extraction. A daycare with nap rooms and more restrooms per child sits a bit higher, and a school with mostly hard floors and few restrooms runs lower. Share your class and care hours at a walkthrough, and we price around them.
